How It Works

FileZoom decodes your audio with the browser's Web Audio API into raw PCM samples, applies any trim or volume changes, then re-encodes to your chosen format — using lamejs for MP3 — directly on your device. Because decoding and encoding both run in your browser, your audio is never uploaded and the original file stays untouched.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Converting to MP3? 128 kbps is fine for speech; use 192–320 kbps for music you want to keep crisp.
  • Choose WAV (lossless) when you'll edit the file further; choose MP3 when you want a small file to share.
  • Need just a chorus or a ringtone? Set the trim start and end before converting to export only that segment.
  • Audio too quiet? Raise the volume above 100% before exporting — no separate editor needed.

FAQ

Are my audio files uploaded to a server?

No. All conversion happens entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API and lamejs. Your files never leave your device.

Which audio formats are supported?

You can convert between MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, and AAC. Most common audio files are supported.

Will the audio quality change after conversion?

Quality depends on the format and settings you choose. Lossless formats like WAV and FLAC preserve full quality. Lossy formats like MP3 may reduce quality slightly.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 50MB can be converted. Very long audio files may take more time depending on your device.

How do I convert WAV to MP3?

Upload the WAV file, choose MP3 as the output format, pick a bitrate, and click Convert. Everything runs in your browser.

What bitrate should I choose for MP3?

128 kbps is standard quality and small; 192–320 kbps keeps music closer to the original. Higher bitrate means a larger file.

Can I convert and trim at the same time?

Yes. Set a start and end time in the Trim section, and only that segment is converted and exported.

Does the audio converter work on mobile?

Yes. It runs in mobile browsers such as Safari and Chrome, so you can convert audio on your phone or tablet.
