How It Works

FileZoom uses PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF engine, to render each page onto an in-memory canvas in your browser, then exports that canvas as a PNG or JPEG at your chosen resolution. Because rendering happens on your device, the PDF is never uploaded and no copy of it exists on any server.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Choose PNG when you need sharp text or transparency; choose JPEG for the smallest files when a white background is fine.
  • Use about 150 DPI for on-screen use and 300 DPI for printing — higher DPI means sharper but larger images.
  • Need a PDF back from images? Use the Image → PDF direction of this tool, or PDF Merge, to recombine them.
  • Only need a few pages? Convert all, then keep just the images you want before downloading.

FAQ

Which pages are converted?

All pages in the PDF are converted. Each page becomes a separate image file.

What resolution should I choose?

150 DPI is suitable for on-screen viewing. Use 300 DPI for printing or high-quality previews.

Is the PDF uploaded to your servers?

No. Conversion uses PDF.js entirely in your browser. Your files stay on your device.

Can I convert just one page?

Currently all pages are converted. You can then keep only the images you need.

What is the difference between PNG and JPEG output?

PNG is lossless and supports transparency — best for text and diagrams. JPEG produces smaller files with a solid background — best for photos.

What DPI should I pick?

About 150 DPI is fine for viewing on screen; use 300 DPI for printing or zooming in. Higher DPI gives sharper but heavier images.

Can I convert only specific pages?

All pages are converted in one run. You can then keep only the images you need before downloading, or pick from the ZIP archive.

Does PDF to Image work on mobile?

Yes. It runs in mobile browsers such as Safari and Chrome, so you can convert PDF pages to images on your phone or tablet.
